Penny (played by Felicia Day) is a main character and the only genuinely good character in the web series "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog". She is a volunteer at the Caring Hands Homeless Shelter. While attending her local laundromat, she is noticed by Billy/Dr. Horrible and he takes an interest in her. Not long after formally meeting Billy, she is rescued by Captain Hammer and develops an infatuation with him while also developing a friendship with Billy at the laundromat, telling him to be positive no matter what and implying that she had a history of failed jobs and loneliness. After she goes out with Captain Hammer several times, Hammer persuades the Mayor to sign over a new homeless shelter for Penny, who is ecstatic--though eventually she begins to see the worst aspects of Hammer's personality. During the official ceremony, Penny is mortally wounded by the shrapnel of Dr. Horrible's backfiring Death Ray, fired by Hammer himself, and eventually succumbs to her wounds and dies, which leads to Billy finally giving himself to his dark side and finding himself as a feared villain.
